When we visited Corsica in 2014 to do our research on what could be done with chestnuts, John fell in love with the chestnut ale there and wanted to introduce chestnut ale to Australia. We have been working in partnership with the Blackwood Valley Brewing Company in Bridgetown to introduce the ale. It launched two weeks ago and is available from The Cidery in Bridgetown, Rockpool Bar & Grill and Wildflower Restaurants in Perth. Mark Hollett the brewer who crafted the ale, entered the ale into the 2017 Australian International Beer Awards in Melbourne where there were 2000 entries from 358 breweries in 36 countries. The excitement of our year, is that the Chestnut Ale won the gold medal.

The first thing we are asked about the ale is what it tastes like. John says a “nutty Kilkenny.” The Judges said :

“Great base brown ale with no astringency or oxidised malt notes that has been enhanced by the great integration of chestnuts. Well crafted, well made and beautifully balance.”
